Dragon & Lion Dance

Dragon dance is a form of traditional dance and performance in Chinese culture. Like the lion dance it is most often seen in festive celebrations.

In the dance, a team of people carry the dragon which is an image of the Chinese dragon on poles.
The dance team does mimic the supposed movements of this river spirit in a sinuous, undulating manner.

The movements in a performance traditionally symbolise historical roles of dragons demonstrating power and dignity.

The dragon dance is a highlight of Chinese New Year celebrations held worldwide in Chinatowns around the world.

Dragon dance is a form of traditional dance and performance in Chinese culture. Like the lion dance it is most often seen in festive celebrations. Chinese people often use the term "Descendants of the Dragon" as a sign of ethnic identity. In the Dragon Dance, the athletes control the dragon in dancing to show a powerful atmosphere, and the symbol of luck, pleasure, and fortune.

The appearance of Northern Lion is like a real lion, whose lively body is covered by the golden hair. A red knot or green knot on the lion’s head classifies the sex of male and female respectively. In dancing styles, the Northern emphases in jumping.

The shape of Southern Lion represents a strong power. At the early period, a dancer wearing a mask of Baddish statue head leads the Southern lion. In dancing styles, the Southern enhances in flatland dancing.
