Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, July 20, 2020: The United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee has marked the launch of the historic UAE’s Hope Mars Mission on Monday, July 20, by presenting a common aspect shared by sports and space through projects presented by NASA to celebrate athletes at the opening of Olympic Games.
The Hope Mars Mission set off after a successful lift-off in Japan in the early hours on Monday on a 500-million kilometre journey to study the planet’s weather and climate.
To mark this momentous occasion, the UAE NOC, through its social media platforms, republished images and video clips of NASA’s Astrolympic Project which presents the achievements of Olympic athletes from a universal perspective.
The innovative project of NASA, which was unveiled at the time of the Rio Olympic Games 2016, compares the achievements of talented Olympic athletes with iconic features of the universe. It established a synergy between the accurate universal system and the life of Olympic athletes which is characterised by speed, accuracy and time.
“To express how proud we are, our love for our country and our rational leadership, the Committee interacted with this milestone event by providing a common side of the sports and space sectors through projects and studies presented by NASA Space Agency to celebrate athletes,” the UAE NOC posted on its Facebook page.
Among the video clips posted by the UAE NOC is one of Usain Bolt challenging astronauts in a race under simulated zero gravity conditions aboard an Airbus plane in September 2018. Bolt won the race.
“This mega UAE achievement of launching Hope Mars Mission adds to an impressive record of the nation and reflects the value of science not only among the people of the UAE but also the entire Arab world,” the NOC added.
