Lausanne, Switzerland, July 15, 2020: The IOC has already supported the National Olympic Committees and International Federations with around USD 100 million since the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis. This comprises USD 63 million to IFs and USD 37 million to NOCs.
In addition, it has been confirmed today, July 15, by the IOC Executive Board that the IOC will continue supporting the NOCs with the TOP Programme allocation amounting to USD 150 million payable by the end of this year.
Furthermore, the IOC is committed to ensuring funding for the IOC-Recognised Organisations and will announce details later.
Due to the urgency of the situation, payments to IFs started in June 2020 and the programme is still continuing. The IOC’s support comes in different forms, and is decided after an assessment of needs and on a case-by-case basis.
*International Federations that have received a loan from the IOC: Basketball, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Modern Pentathlon, Swimming, Tennis, Cycling, Archery, Athletics, Rowing, Rugby, Sailing and Taekwondo.
*International Federations that have received a donation from the IOC as they do not participate in the revenue distribution from the Olympic Games: Sport Climbing, Surfing, Baseball/Softball, Karate and Skateboarding.
Additionally, IFs based in Switzerland can benefit from the financial support of the Swiss government under the Federal COVID-19 F1 and F2 credit programmes, provided they meet the relevant criteria.
The 206 NOCs are also experiencing a significant financial impact from the postponement of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and the COVID-19 outbreak.
Olympic Solidarity has increased funding by USD 25.3 million, comprised of USD 15 million in athlete scholarships, team support grants and refugee athlete support, and USD 10.3 million in IOC subsidies for NOC participation in the Olympic Games, taking the total in this category from USD 46.7 million to USD 57 million.
In addition, in June 2020, ANOC approved a budget of USD 11.65 million from Olympic Solidarity to assist the 206 NOCs in Olympic preparations for the extra year. The fund is being managed by the five Continental Associations under the supervision of Olympic Solidarity.
