IOC Session prepares to elect five new members

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 15, 2020: The International Olympic Committee is preparing to conduct its 136th IOC Session by video conference on Friday, July 17.

One of the main points on the agenda is the approval of five new IOC Members proposed by the Executive Board. 

The five candidates include Her Royal Highness Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and Battushig Batbold of Mongolia.

Two days before the 136th IOC Session, the IOC Executive Board will have a virtual meeting on Wednesday, July 15.

The EB meeting, scheduled to run from 12 noon to 3pm, will begin with the report of the IOC President Thomas Bach.

This will be followed by the reports of the International Olympic Summer Sports Federations, the International Olympic Winter Sports Federations, the National Olympic Committees, the Athletes and the report on Anti-Doping.

The IOC Coordination Commissions and Olympic Games organising committees will then provide updates on Tokyo 2020, the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal in 2022 and the Winter YOG in Gangwon, Korea in 2024.

The EB meeting will close with reports on three governance issues - ethics, audit and finance - and preparation of the 136th IOC Session.

The IOC Session on Friday is scheduled from 12 noon to 4pm and will cover several of the topics on the agenda of the EB.

The update on Olympic Games preparations will be extended to Beijing 2022, Paris 2024, Milano-Cortina 2026 and Los Angeles 2028.

The reports on the activities of the IOC Commissions will involve Q&A sessions with IOC Members, while the Anti-Doping segment will involve reports from the World Anti-Doping Agency, the International Testing Agency and the International Council of Arbitration for Sport.

After the finance report and amendments to the Olympic Charter, the IOC Members section will include the IOC Members Election Commission report, the election of new IOC Members, change of status, extension of terms of office, election of two Vice Presidents and members of the IOC Executive Board, Honorary Members and the Oath.
