Tehran, Iran, July 14, 2020: Iranian para athletes have joined an “I Wear A Mask” campaign launched by the government urging residents to wear masks in order to protect themselves from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Nayerh Akef, a shooter and the first Iranian woman to win a medal at the Paralympic Games in Sydney 2000, is among the para athletes who joined the campaign.

Meanwhile, due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, Tehran authorities have suspended all indoor sports activities for one week.

“In accordance with health protocols, all indoor sports activities are suspended in Tehran for one week, and it could be extended,” said Reza Golmohammadi, Director General of Youth Affairs and Sports Office in Tehran.

Tehran has more than 5,000 outdoor and indoor gyms, swimming pools and sports facilities. Golmohammadi said outdoor gyms and pools would continue to operate.
