Hong Kong, China, July 10, 2020: Asia Rugby has announced that Cambodia, Iraq and Palestine have been granted associate membership of the continental governing body, bringing the total number of member unions to 34.
In addition, the Afghanistan Rugby Federation has been granted full membership.
All four unions have been working hard to promote the game in their respective countries and this official recognition will help propel the game to greater heights.
Asia Rugby President Qais Al-Dhalai said: “As President of Asia Rugby I am delighted to welcome the Cambodia Federation of Rugby, Iraq Rugby Committee and Palestine Rugby Committee to the Asia Rugby family. I would also like to congratulate the Afghanistan Rugby Federation on becoming a full member of Asia Rugby.
“I would like to thank the Asia Rugby Executive Committee, the Asia Rugby Council and a special mention to members of the Ethics and Governance Committee led by Chairperson Kakhramon Djalilov.
“Asia Rugby is committed to the growth of rugby throughout Asia by empowering and supporting our member unions. We stand firm in our guiding principles of equality, transparency and accountability.”
The Asia Rugby President added: “I would like to thank the presidents of the unions - Haris Rahmani in Afghanistan, Madame Tan Theany in Cambodia, Rabie El Masri in Palestine and Ahmed Hussain in Iraq - for their hard work. I congratulate them on this historic moment for all of these unions and for Asia Rugby.
