Nepal picks 20-strong weightlifting squad for South Asian Games

Kathmandu, Nepal, October 7, 2019: The Nepal Weightlifting Association has picked a 20-strong squad for the 13th South Asian Games from December 1-10 in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

The regional Games features 10 gold medals in weightlifting for each of the men’s and women’s competitions and each country can field a maximum of seven weightlifters apiece.

“We have selected 10 lifters but, as host country, we will have an advantage as we can select our final seven after looking through the squads of the other nations,” said Partha Sarathi Sen Gupta, General Secretary of Nepal Weightlifting Association.

The athletes selected are:

Men: Tula Ram Mahato (55kg), Raju Chaudhary (61kg), KC Prakash (67kg), Kamal Bahadur Adhikari (73kg), Bikash Thapa (81kg), Dinesh Karki (89kg), Bishal Singh Bista (96kg), Sandesh Gurung (102kg), Sagar Bhandari (109kg) and Pukur Gurung (above 109kg).

Women: Karina Chaudhary (45kg), Sangita Rai (49kg), Sanju Chaudhary (55kg), Kamala Shrestha (59kg), Devi Chaudhary (64kg), Raj Laxmi Thapa (71kg), Tara Devi Pun (76kg), Laxmi Ban (81kg), Man Kumari Kumal (87kg) and Ashmita Rai (above 87kg).
