Lausanne, Switzerland, July 6, 2020: Six Asian archers are among the 35 international athletes who will receive grants from World Archery and the Foundation for Global Sports Development COVID-19 fund.

Indian duo Rajat Chauhan and Aman Saini, Chinese Taipei’s Chen Yi-hsuan and Huang I-jou, Sri Lankan Sajeev de Silva and Bangladeshi Ruman Shana were the successful applicants from Asia for the fund totaling US$190,000.

Each athlete will receive amounts of between US$1,500 and US$7,500. The fund was solely for the purpose of financially assisting archers whose income has been lessened by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some 122 archers submitted applications and, following evaluation by the selection committee of World Archery, 35 athletes representing 19 countries and regions and four continents were selected to receive grants. The final list includes two para-archers, while 43 per cent of the total will go to women.

Applicants were required to have competed internationally in 2018 or 2019, prove they had lost significant income and propose how the money would be spent.
