Manila, Philippines, June 24, 2020: There’s just no stopping Asian Games skateboarding champion Margielyn Didal – on her skateboard, online or even skating round the kitchen sink.

“Magic Margie”, who romped to a sensational gold medal in the women’s street event at the 18th Asian Games at Palembang, Indonesia, won the gold medal in the recent 1st Asian Skateboarding Championships 2020 Lockdown Video Competition.

The 2019 SEA Games champion showed that home quarantine had not compromised her daredevil style by outscoring 13 other skaters in ruling the online competition.

With a score of 8.00, the world no. 14 from Cebu topped Japanese rival Yurin Fujji, who tallied 7.50. Orapan Tongkong of Thailand settled for the bronze with 7.46 points.

Fellow Cebuano Motic Panugalinog won the men’s division with an overall score of 8.92, ahead of Indonesia's Basral Graito and Firas Ahmed Al-Hinai of Oman who both scored 8.34.

To provide a good showing, Panugalinog converted part of his home into a mini-skate park, coming up with makeshift obstacles out of a motorcycle and other household objects to jump out of.

Video clips of his tricks were submitted to judges in the virtual event, organised by urban sports events company Millennial Events. Judges looked into the videos from remote sites in Singapore and Shanghai.

As for Didal, she performed her tricks from inside her home in Cebu City, which went into Enhanced Community Quarantine last week.

She completed her routines on top of the kitchen sink while cruising on a long table as she took a break from her online food delivery business Hungry SK8RS.

She was helping her parents’ business by taking care of the deliveries and distribution to customers in Cebu. (Manila Standard)
