Kuwait City, Kuwait, June 23, 2020: Happy Olympic Day!
Although this is not a normal Olympic Day due to the coronavirus pandemic, I have been very impressed and heartened with the amount of activities taking place in Asia and the world.
Our National Olympic Committees and many of our elite athletes have shown a true Olympic spirit in bringing the world together and celebrating the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect on this special day in the Olympic sports calendar.
Home workouts have proved to be very popular and inspiring, encouraging people to stay healthy in these difficult times, and have also forged a special bond between Olympians and the public.
Most of the Olympic Day celebrations have been organised online and through social media but this has not had an impact on the enjoyment and the enthusiasm of the participants.
All in all it has been a unique Olympic Day and a global celebration that has displayed the humanity and the unbreakable spirit of the sports movement.
I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all our National Olympic Committees for their efforts, their creativity and their passion for making sure Olympic Day 2020 would not be forgotten.
In these challenging times, the Olympic spirit is burning brightly throughout Asia and the world!
