Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, June 18, 2020: The President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, Dato' Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, has thanked the government for providing a RM10 million (US$2.3 million) fund for the sports industry.

In a letter dated June 17 and posted on the OCM’s Facebook page, the OCM President writes: “The Olympic Council of Malaysia would like to express our thanks and appreciation to the government, particularly the Ministry of Youth and Sports headed by YB Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, for their initiative in setting up a RM10 million fund for sports associations in the country.

“The fund demonstrates the government’s concern and commitment towards stakeholders in the sports industry. We have no doubt that this assistance will go a long way towards helping us revitalize and revive the country’s sports industry.

“We hope our National Sports Associations will take advantage of the RM2 million (US$467,000) set aside for the NSAs to further strengthen their administration, as well as the RM3 million (US$700,000) towards the digitalisation of their administration and activities.

“We urge all those who are affected, be it the National Sports Associations or those sports associations at the grassroots, to make the most out of this stimulus package so that all of us, as Malaysians, can once again enjoy and participate in sporting activities while observing the necessary Standard Operating Procedures.

“On behalf of OCM and its affiliates, I thank Dato Seri Reezal for this initiative and hope our close cooperation will continue for the benefit of those in sports.”
