Six International Federations lead the way in ASOIF governance review

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 17, 2020: Six International Federations have been the awarded the highest marks in the third Association of Summer Olympic International Federations governance review of its full and associate member federations released on June 16.

The six IFs who scored the best marks and were categorised as Grade A1 were: Badminton World Federation, International Equestrian Federation, FIFA, International Tennis Federation, International Cycling Union and World Rugby.

Grade A2 (8 IFs): International Basketball Federation, International Fencing Federation, International Table Tennis Federation, International Triathlon Union, United World Wrestling, World Athletics, World Sailing and World Taekwondo.

Grade B (11 IFs): International Gymnastics Federation, International Hockey Federation, World Rowing, International Volleyball Federation, International Canoe Federation, International Federation of Sport Climbing*, International Golf Federation, International Handball Federation, International Shooting Sport Federation, International Modern Pentathlon Union and World Archery.

Grade C (6 IFs): International Swimming Federation, International Judo Federation, International Surfing Association*, International Weightlifting Federation, World Baseball Softball Confederation* and World Skate*.

Thirty-one IFs replied to the updated self-assessment questionnaire between November 2019 and January 2020. The aim of the project, led by ASOIF’s Governance Task Force, is to promote a culture of good governance within IFs and monitor progress.

The IFs were asked to check their governance against 50 measurable indicators covering five sections: Transparency, Integrity, Democracy, Development and Control Mechanisms. It incorporated two new indicators on safeguarding and on data protection/IT security.
