Dushanbe, Tajikistan, June 16, 2020: The National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan with the help of the International Olympic Committee has extended its financial assistance to 15 athletes preparing for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Despite being unable to train in gyms due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tajikistan NOC gave financial assistance between US$200 and US$950 a month for the second quarter of 2020 to 15 athletes in six sports.
The recipients are: boxers Bahodur Usmonov (US$950), Shabbos Negmatulloev ($350), Nilufar Boboerova ($200) and Shoira Zulkainarova ($200); judokas Komronshoh Ustopiriyon ($700), Behruz Khojazoda ($600), Temur Rakhimov ($500), Somon Mahmadbekov ($300) and Shohida Kalandorova ($300); taekwondo’s Mohru Halimova ($300) and Manizha Madkarimova; wrestlers Suhrob Abdulhaev ($200) and Saidjon Gulov ($200); rower Shahriyor Daminov ($800); and athlete Gulsunbi Sharipova ($200).
Of the 15 athletes, boxers Bahodur Usmonov and Shabbos Negmatulloev have already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.
The IOC's Olympic Solidarity funding arm extended the financial support for athletes preparing for the Olympics for another year after the Tokyo Olympic Games was postponed to July 2021.
