Tehran, Iran, June 12, 2020: The President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri, has spoken of the “positive impact” the various Olympic Solidarity programmes have had on sport in the country.
Writing in the annual report of the NOC’s Olympic Solidarity Department for 2019, the NOC President says: “Over the last year, the Olympic Solidarity Department tried to play a pivotal role in developing sport through the strengthening of coaches, supporting the athletes to participate in the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games and Beijing Winter Olympic Games, improving the knowledge level of sports managers and promoting Olympic values all over the country.
“The OS Department of I.R. Iran NOC aims to create more opportunities in order to assist athletes, coaches and sports directors in line with the Olympic Solidarity guidelines and policies.”
Salehi Amiri says the success of the NOC’s OS Department can be seen in the number of initiatives and activities conducted with OS support.
“Clear progress was made in the implementation of the World Programmes for the Iranian NOC in 2019. The same is true of the positive impact that these programmes had with regard to the financial support offered to the National Federations, different commissions of the I.R. Iran NOC and other stakeholders.”
The NOC President points out that, in addition to regular events such as OS administrative courses, technical coaching courses, Olympic week and OS scholarships for athletes, there were new initiatives in 2019 including a project on the oral history of Iran sport, athletes’ career transition workshop and Olympic ambassadors’ training course.
The report breaks down the World Programme initiatives available, such as 10 athlete scholarships for Tokyo 2020, four for Beijing 2022, courses on women in the Olympic movement, sports nutrition and doping and a sport for hope forum.
“On behalf of the Iranian NOC I would like to thank the chairman and all the members of the Olympic Solidarity Commission, the director of Olympic Solidarity and all the OS staff for their support and cooperation during 2019,” he concludes.
