Thimphu, Bhutan, October 22, 2026: HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, hosted FIFA President Gianni Infantino earlier this week in Thimphu.
The head of world football was welcomed with a traditional Bhutanese reception that celebrated the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage, indigenous sports and renowned hospitality.
The occasion was attended by executive committee members of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, presidents of national sports federations and other officials from the Bhutanese sporting family.
The FIFA President was introduced to Bhutan’s indigenous sports, including archery, khuru and doegor, and tried his hand at traditional Bhutanese archery and doegor – an outdoor target-throwing game where players hurl flat, heavy stone discs below shoulder level at a target peg about 20 metres away.
Infantino later tasted traditional Bhutanese cuisine with a wide variety of local delicacies served during lunch.
The Bhutan NOC commented that the visit provided a special opportunity to share Bhutan’s sporting and cultural traditions with the head of world football, highlighting the role of sport as a bridge between cultures and communities.
