Tashkent, Uzbekistan, October 21, 2026: The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation, on October 17.
The meeting focused on further strengthening Uzbekistan’s cooperation with this prominent international sports organisation.
Sheikh Salman highly praised Uzbekistan’s extensive efforts to support amateur and professional football and develop modern infrastructure and training facilities.
The importance of jointly developing football academies and advancing projects to engage more young people in football under the "A Football Pitch in Every Mahalla" programme was emphasised.
Both sides agreed to expand practical cooperation in organising and hosting major football events, including women’s and youth championships, providing technical support for the training of players and coaches and identifying talented footballers.
