Iran NOC hails pre-Games preparations for success in Aichi-Nagoya

Tehran, Iran, October 15, 2026: The National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran has hailed the meticulous preparation undertaken by sports authorities which resulted in a successful medal campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.

At a press conference held by the Iran NOC on Monday, October 12, to evaluate the delegation’s performance at the 20th Asian Games, NOC Secretary General Dr. Mahdi Alinejad highlighted the planning and groundwork undertaken by the NOC and the various national sports federations.

Dr. Alinejad described the outcome as a significant milestone in the nation’s sporting roadmap towards the LA28 Olympics, and underlined the breakthrough performance of female athletes, who secured three gold medals and accounted for one-third of the total medal haul.

Iran won 19 gold, 18 silver and 15 bronze medals to finish sixth in the overall standings at Aichi-Nagoya.

The NOC revealed that nearly 150 specialised meetings with sports federations were held prior to the Games, and that it had leveraged the National Olympic Academy to provide comprehensive support in psychology, nutrition and training science.

It also noted that, in total, 4,500 athletes were monitored daily via artificial intelligence to pre-emptively resolve issues, a strategy that contributed to historic diversity with medals secured across 21 disciplines – the highest in the country’s history.

Chef de Mission Asghar Rahimi detailed the complex logistical hurdles that the delegation had faced and surmounted, including managing transit for over 20 flight groups and overseeing accommodation across 26 dispersed locations. Rahimi noted that, despite the obstacles and a challenging environment, the delegation had remained focused and distraction-free.

In conclusion, the NOC emphasised the broader impact of the Games, noting that the results had bolstered national identity and unity. It also highlighted the fact that women’s sport in Iran had transitioned from a support-based model to a results-oriented one.

As the Iran NOC shifts its focus to LA28, officials affirmed their commitment to strengthening the chain of success through continued inter-organisation coordination and sustained investment in elite athlete development.
