Tashkent, Uzbekistan, October 7, 2026: The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received FIFA President Gianni Infantino on September 30 in Tashkent.
The FIFA President began the meeting by highlighting Uzbekistan’s achievements in football and the results of ongoing reforms aimed at providing comprehensive support for sports in the country.
Both sides focused on hosting a major international sporting event - the FIFA U20 World Cup in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
The meeting also addressed ways to further expand the partnership by holding joint programmes to promote football, especially among young people, helping identify young talent, and training coaches, referees, managers, sports doctors and technical specialists.
Discussions also centred around holding major FIFA tournaments in Uzbekistan, and accelerating the opening of FIFA’s regional office in Tashkent.
