Tashkent, Uzbekistan, October 5, 2026: Uzbekistan ended the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya as the best-performing Central Asian country in the medal standings, accounting for 21 of the 36 gold medals won in the region, and 70 of the 186 medals overall.
Uzbekistan athletes won 21 gold, 25 silver and 24 bronze medals for a total of 70. This placed the Central Asian sporting powerhouse in fifth place in the overall medal standings, the same position as the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou 2022.
In terms of gold medals, Uzbekistan matched India, with both countries winning 21, but India took fourth place thanks to a higher number of silver medals – 27 compared to 25.
Uzbek athletes won gold in 19 sports. Kurash made the largest contribution with four gold medals and athletics next with three. In several sports, Uzbekistan reached the top of the podium for the first time at the Asian Games – artistic gymnastics, shooting and weightlifting.
Kazakhstan was the second best-performing country from Central Asia, finishing eighth in the medal standings with 12 golds, 24 silver and 48 bronze for a total of 84.
Tajikistan was the third best Central Asian country finishing 22nd in the standings (2-5-9:16) followed by Kyrgyzstan, 26th (1-3-10:14) and Turkmenistan, 31 (two silver medals).
