Princess Reema among five nominations for IOC membership

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 10, 2020: The IOC Executive Board has nominated five new IOC Members – three women and two men. Two of the five are from Asia. 

The five names, which were proposed at the IOC EB meeting on June 10, will be submitted to the 136th IOC Session to be held virtually on July 17.

The five candidates are:

Individual members:

*Mrs Maria de la Caridad Colón Ruenes (Female, 1958, Cuba)

*Mrs Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović (Female, 1968, Croatia)

*Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud (Female, 1975, Saudi Arabia)

*Mr Battushig Batbold (Male, 1986, Mongolia)

Member whose candidature is linked to a function within an IF:

*Sebastian Coe, President of World Athletics (Male, 1956, Great Britain)

In addition, the IOC EB agreed to submit to the IOC Session the extension of the term of IOC Member Yu Zaiqing (People’s Republic of China, membership linked to his function as NOC Vice President and age limit to be reached on 31.12.2021) from the end of 2021 to the end of 2025 due to the important role that he plays in Chinese sport and society.

HRH Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud: Born 21 June 1975, Saudi Arabia.         

Education: Bachelor of Arts degree in Museum Studies, George Washington University, Washington DC (USA).

Career: Saudi Ambassador to the United States of America (2019-); Deputy of Women’s Affairs at the Saudi General Sports Authority (2016-) and Deputy of Planning and Development (2017-); Chair, Saudi Federation for Mass Participation; CEO of ALFA International Company Limited (2006-2012) and Harvey Nichols Riyadh.  

Sports practised: Skiing  

Sports administration: Board member, Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee; Chair, Saudi Arabia Special Olympics; Board member, Saudi Sport for All Federation; Member of the Saudi Arabian NOC delegation at the Olympic Games Rio 2016; led the Saudi sports economy under the Planning and Development Deputyship (female gym licensing, creation of professional sport jobs within the private sector and geography of sports).

Battushig Batbold: Born 23 July 1986. Mongolia          

Education: Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, University of Chicago; Master in Business Administration, Harvard Business School. 

Career: Chair, Altai Holding Group (Mongolia); Chair, Emart Hypermarket Mongolia; Chair, Skytel and Skymedia LLC; Former analyst at Morgan Stanley Investment Bank; Member, Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Mongolia (Mongol Bank) (2016-2018).  

Sports practised: Basketball, badminton.   

Sports administration: First Vice President of the Mongolian National Olympic Committee (2017-); Executive Board Member of the Mongolian National Olympic Committee and Acting President of the Mongolian National Olympic Committee (2019-2020); Chef de Mission for Mongolia, Olympic Games Tokyo 2020; President of the Mongolian Badminton Association (2015-); Council Member, Badminton World Federation (2017-); Deputy Chair, Marketing Committee, Badminton World Federation; Executive Committee Member, Badminton Asia  (2017-2019).
