Nagoya, Japan, October 2, 2026: Nurisa Dian Ashrifah made Indonesian sporting history by winning the country’s first-ever archery gold, while also delivering Indonesia’s fifth gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Games and pushing the contingent beyond its pre-Games target.
Competing in the women’s individual compound event on Thursday, October 1, Ashrifah defeated the Philippines’ Amaya Amparo Cojuangco 139-137 in a tightly contested final at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park in Aichi Prefecture.
The triumph marked Indonesia’s first archery gold in Asian Games history. Since archery returned to the Games as a medal sport in 1978, Indonesian archers had previously come no closer than silver.
Ashrifah’s victory also lifted Indonesia to five gold medals in Aichi-Nagoya, surpassing the government’s pre-Games target of four.
“We have secured our fifth gold, which means we have exceeded the target of four gold medals that we set,” Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir said.
“We still have athletes competing in finals. I hope they give everything they have and show a strong fighting spirit because we still have opportunities to add more gold medals,” he added.
