Tokyo, Japan, September 29, 2026: Chen Yuxi went close to perfection at the Tokyo Aquatic Centre on Tuesday to win gold in the women’s 10 metre platform as the Chinese diver secured her second title at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
The 21-year-old amassed 432.65 points across the five dives to finish ahead of her gold medal-winning partner from the synchronised event, Lu Wei, who secured 385.40 points. DPR Korea’s Jo Jin Min claimed the bronze on 363.80 points.
“I think in the final, overall, I was quite calm and focused,” said Chen. “During the preliminaries there were some emotional fluctuations and I wasn’t fully immersed or completely adapted to the rhythm and atmosphere of competition yet.
“Because of that there were some mistakes. But being able to adjust quickly for the final was a very valuable experience for me.”
Those adaptations saw Chen register the best dive in each of the first four rounds of the competition, with her fourth bordering on a perfect score.
Four of the seven judges gave the double Olympic champion 10.0 for her execution of a back three-and-a-half somersaults with tuck, a dive that was given a 3.3 degree of difficulty. Two scored it at 9.5 and one at 9.0 to give Chen a score of 97.35, effectively sealing the win.
“I was excited, really excited,” Chen said of the dive. “I also felt relieved. Even in training I sometimes struggled with that dive. During the competition I got a little too much height and couldn’t quite control it.”
Lu Wei picked up her second medal of the Asian Games as China’s dominance of the diving events continued. Her silver was the country’s second in addition to seven gold and one bronze.
“Overall, I felt pretty good today,” said the 20-year-old. “But because I was quite excited throughout the afternoon, my control and execution of the movements may not have been as good as they could have been.”
Jo Min Jin finished ahead of team mate Kim Min Hwa to take the bronze to the delight of the large contingent of DPR Korea fans gathered poolside.
“I’m happy to get the bronze medal and I’d like to thank in particular the enthusiastic applause from the our fans in Japan, they helped me to do my best with my performance,” said Jo.
