Tehran, Iran, June 10, 2020: The President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Reza Salehi Amiri, has called for his country’s athletes to carry on training for the Asian Beach Games this November and for the Tokyo Olympics next year despite the COVID-19 situation.

In a meeting attended by top officials of the Olympic and Paralympic committees held on Tuesday, June 9, Salehi said: “Based on what top officials of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia have said, the Tokyo Games and the Asian Beach Games in China will likely be held on the scheduled dates.

“We must continue our preparations and necessary planning in the lead up to the Olympics and Paralympics as well as the Asian Beach Games,” Salehi Amiri said.

The OCA's sixth edition of the Asian Beach Games will be held in Sanya, Hainan province, from November 28 to December 6, with 17 sports, 19 disciplines and 93 events at four venue clusters.

“In order to continue the Olympians’ training we have provided them with facilities to follow their training at home. We also provided psychological services for these athletes,” the Iran NOC President added.
