Malaysia NOC congratulates Ng and Subramaniam for securing LA28 Olympic quotas in squash

Nagoya, Japan, September 28, 2026: Malaysia’s Ng Eain Yow and Sivasangari Subramaniam secured a qualification each at the LA28 Olympics after winning the gold medals in the men's and women’s singles squash final at the 20th Asian Games.

Both Ng and Subramaniam successfully defended their golds from Hangzhou 2022, obtaining the first two Olympic qualification spots in squash, which will make its debut at LA28.

The Olympic Council of Malaysia congratulated both players on their historic Olympic qualification.

“We celebrate this historic achievement of Ng Eain Yow and Sivasangari Subramaniam, which marks a significant milestone for Malaysian Squash and for the Olympic Movement in Malaysia,” said Dr. Norza Zakaria, President of OCM, President of SEAGF, Vice President of OCA for Southeast Asia Zone and Executive Board Member of ISSA.

The LA28 Olympic quota spots secured are subject to meeting the relevant qualification criteria, including being ranked inside the PSA World Top 50 on May 22, 2028.

Top seed Ng produced a dominant 3-0 victory (11-9, 11-5, 11-5) over India’s Abhay Singh in the men’s singles on Sunday, September 27.

“This is the second time for me, so I’m still emotional but this time is a bit different. It’s my ticket to LA28,” Ng said.

“My main goal is to be the best player in the world. Obviously it’s good to secure the ticket for LA28 now, but I also have the confidence knowing that in two years I am ready to be the best in the world. So that’s where I’m preparing to go,” Ng added.

In the women’s singles, World No.5 Subramaniam needed only 23 minutes to beat Anahat, India’s first ever junior world champion, 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-7).

“I got a ticket to the Olympics which is huge. It’s a dream come true already, but I want to work harder,” Subramaniam said. “World No.1 and an Olympic gold medal is my goal.”
