Nagoya, Japan September 27th 2026: China’s Huang Yingying claimed the women’s long jump title at the 20th Asian Games on Sunday, producing a winning leap of 6.55 meters at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium to edge India’s Ancy Sojan Edappilly by just two centimeters.

Sojan looked set for the top step of the podium after registering 6.53m, only for Huang to overtake her in the decisive final stages to capture gold.

China's Tan Mengyi secured the bronze medal with a best effort of 6.46m, keeping India’s Shaili Singh off the podium in fourth place at 6.42m. Japan’s Sumire Hata finished fifth on home soil with a leap of 6.39m.

Huang revealed after the final that she had to overcome a shaky opening attempt before finding her rhythm on the runway.

"My first jump was not good  just 6 metres 14," Huang said. "But at the same time my opponents did not perform well."

Having already medaled earlier in the athletics program, Huang credited physical recovery and tactical patience for managing the back to back disciplines.

"Just a few days ago I won the silver medal in the triple jump," Huang said. "So before the competition I just tried to be relaxed, concentrate on this event and to reserve my stamina and sleep well."

The result marked a 1-3 podium finish for China, adding to their dominant track and field medal haul in Nagoya.
