Nagoya, Japan, September 25, 2026: China recorded a 1-2 finish in the women’s shot put final at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Friday when Song Jiayang and Zhang Linru won the gold and silver medal, respectively.
At the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, Song won the silver medal. Here, the 29-year-old Chinese went one better with a season’s best distance of 19.40 metres, taking gold and further proving herself as a strong contender within the Asian circuit
Song was followed by compatriot Zhang Linru, 27, with 18.14 - 1.26 adrift in the silver medal position.
Indian veteran Manpreet Kaur, 36, won bronze with 17.17 - 2.23 behind the champion.
Asian Games champion Song said: “I feel very content with the result I accomplished to secure the gold medal. This was a step up from my last Asian Games where I took the silver medal. Overall, I am grateful to all the parties involved which contributed to my win.”
On a similar note, Zhang said: “I am very happy with my finish. It was a tough competition, so i am very content with my finish.”
Bronze medal-winner Kaur added: “I am very happy to secure a medal finish at the Asian Games after years of training. Overall, I am content with my finish today. I thank my coach and my federation for their constant guidance and support of my athletic endeavors.”
