Nagoya, Japan, September 24: Uzbekistan made a strong start to the Asian Games track and field program at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Thursday evening when Sharifa Davronova won the women's triple jump.
The Chinese duo of Huang Yingying and Li Yi bagged silver and bronze, respectively.
Davronova, 19, won her second Asian Games gold with an impressive distance of 14.35m – a personal best.
Huang, 22, took the silver with a distance of 14.12m, equaling her personal best, followed by LI, 20, who rounded up the podium with a distance of 13.83m.
Davronova said: “I feel very happy and excited that I won gold. I also broke my personal record which adds to the celebration of this title.
“I am thankful to the federation, my fellow countrymen and my loved ones for supporting me every step of the way in my athletic endeavors.”
Silver medallist Huang added: “I was aiming for gold but fell short on some aspects of my jump which prevented me from achieving that goal. Nonetheless, I feel content with the medal at hand.”
Li, who won bronze, commented: “I share the same feeling as my teammate. I aimed for a higher finish but ended up with the bronze. There were certain ups and down with this match, but I do feel content with a medal finish.”
