Kuwait City, Kuwait, September 23, 2026: The International Testing Agency (ITA), on behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and United World Wrestling (UWW), reports that Pakistani wrestler Muhammad Inam has been sanctioned for an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV).
The ITA reports that a urine sample collected during an in-competition doping control on April 29, 2026 during the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026 from wrestler Muhammad Inam (Pakistan) has returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) for Acetazolamide.
Acetazolamide is prohibited under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) prohibited list as S5 Diuretics and Masking Agents. Acetazolamide is classified as a Specified substance and is prohibited at all times (in and out of competition).
The athlete established that he had used acetazolamide to treat an ophthalmic condition and was granted a Therapeutic Use Exemption valid from the date of his application for an exemption.
However, since the athlete had failed to apply for and to obtain a corresponding Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) prior to the start of his treatment, the ITA proceeded with the matter as an ADRV.
The athlete accepted the consequences of his ADRV under the OCA anti-doping rules, namely the finding of the ADRV and the disqualification of his individual results obtained at the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026 including his 2nd place in the men’s beach wrestling 90kg event.
The ITA issued the sanction on behalf of the OCA in accordance with article 8.3.3 of the OCA anti-doping rules (and equivalent provision in the World Anti-Doping Code).
The matter was then considered by the ITA on behalf of UWW for a determination of further consequences to be imposed under the UWW anti-doping rules.
In this context, the athlete accepted a period of ineligibility of two months from 19 July 2026 until 18 September 2026 and the disqualification of his competitive results from 29 April 2026 onwards.
The relevant stakeholders, namely the World Anti-Doping Agency and the Anti-doping Organization of Pakistan, have a right to appeal the consequences imposed before the appeals division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The ITA will not comment further on this case.
