Nagoya, Japan, September 22, 2026: The Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall was witness to a brilliant martial arts performance as China’s Zhang Yaling clinched the gold medal in the women’s nanquan and nandao combined event.
Displaying explosive power, remarkable stability and superb weapon handling, Zhang separated herself from a world-class field to finish at the top with a score of 19.569.
Reflecting on the evolving nature of international competition and the continuous improvement in her routines, Zhang said: "A single lapse in focus can change everything. We push our limits in training so that composure comes naturally when it matters most."
Taking the silver medal was Uzbekistan’s seasoned stalwart, Darya Latisheva, who posted a stellar 19.413. Building on her bronze-medal finish at the 2022 Asian Games, Latisheva climbed a step higher on the podium to prove her enduring elite status. Known for her fierce determination and ability to rise to the occasion on major stages, Latisheva remarked on her journey: “Winning a medal here is a testament to resilience.”
Rounding out the podium with the bronze was Malaysia’s charismatic champion Tan Cheong Min, who secured a tight 19.389. Having claimed the silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games, Tan shifted one slot down this time around in a fiercely competitive field. A former world champion in the discipline, Tan brought her trademark artistry and dynamic transitions to the floor. Tan shared an upbeat perspective on her performance: “I am proud to stand on this podium and share it with such incredible athletes.”
The event highlighted the rising continental standards of women’s taolu, with China, Uzbekistan, Malaysia delivering brilliance on the mat in athletic excellence.
