Nagoya, Japan, September 21, 2026: The men’s Wushu all-round podium was fiercely contested with China’s Liu Dewen capturing gold with 19.560 points, Sun Chia-hung from Chinese Taipei taking silver with 19.453 points and Korea’s An Hyeon-gi rounding off the medals with 19.429 points.
The competition was dramatic, driven by highly energetic routines in the Taijiquan and Taijijian events. Fans anticipated a neck-and-neck battle between powerhouse Liu and Chinese Taipei’s rising star Sun. While Sun pushed the envelope, combining the difficulty quotient with flair, a slight wobble or hesitation during the Taijijian routine ultimately hindered his attempt to overhaul Liu.
However, Sun’s silver medal marks a monumental career upward trajectory, especially considering his eighth-place finish back at the 2022 Asian Games. Conversely, past podium finishers faced stiff competition from emerging talent. Jones Inso of the Philippines, who won a 2022 bronze medal, struggled to match his peak form this time around, slipping down the standings to finish in sixth place.
Meanwhile, Korea’s An put together a remarkably steady and polished performance across both formats to safely secure the bronze medal position.
Both Liu and Sun were extremely respectful of each other after the event concluded. Reflecting on their rivalry, Sun shared his admiration for the champion, stating: “We may be opponents during the competition, but there is huge respect. I always look up to Dewen and try my best to learn from him.”
Looking ahead to what the future holds after claiming the top spot on the podium, Liu remained grounded. When asked about his upcoming plans, the gold medallist stated: “Winning the gold is a dream, but I would like to continue in the same vein and keep training.”
