Nagoya, Japan, September 21, 2026: The Olympic Council of Asia has announced that a badminton player from Thailand has produced an Adverse Analytical Finding for the prohibited substance furosemide at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
The International Testing Agency is the testing and results management authority of the OCA at the Asian Games.
The sample was collected from Thailand badminton player Ms. Pitchamon Opatniputh during an out-of-competition doping control on September 17 in Nagoya.
The athlete has not yet participated in any competition at the 20th Asian Games and is scheduled to compete in the women’s team quarterfinals on the morning of September 22.
Furosemide is prohibited under the WADA Prohibited List as S5 Diuretics and Masking Agents. It is prohibited at all times (in and out of competition) and is classified as a specified substance. Furosemide can be used by athletes to excrete water for rapid weight loss.
The athlete has been informed of the case and has been provisionally suspended with immediate effect until the resolution of the matter in line with the World Anti-Doping Code and the OCA Anti-Doping Rules. This means that the athlete is prevented from competing, training, coaching, or participating in any activity, during the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
The athlete has the right to challenge the imposition of the provisional suspension before the Court of Arbitration for Sport – Anti-Doping Division (CAS ADD).
The athlete also has the right to request the analysis of the B-sample.
The ITA states: “Given that the case is underway, there will be no further comments during the ongoing proceeding.”
