Nagoya, Japan, September 21, 2026: The Bhutan Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Understanding at Hilton Nagoya on Monday, September 21, marking an important chapter in sports cooperation and strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
The MoU was signed by HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, and Dr. Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, on the sidelines of the 20th Asian Games.
The agreement establishes a framework for closer cooperation between the two NOCs, with particular emphasis on athlete and coach development, joint training opportunities, technical knowledge exchange, sports science and performance preparation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prince Jigyel said the MoU should serve as a purpose beyond sport itself, strengthening the friendship and relationship between the two countries while creating opportunities for meaningful sporting development.
His Royal Highness emphasised that sustainable progress in sports depends on building strong foundations and developing the wider sporting ecosystem.
OCM President Dr. Zakaria thanked His Royal Highness for proposing the signing of the MoU during the Asian Games and described it as a meaningful opportunity to bring the two NOCs closer together. On behalf of the OCM, he offered technical support to Bhutan, with the initial cooperation focusing on badminton and archery.
