Macau, China, June 3, 2020: The Special Administrative Region of Macau, China is looking forward to some competitive outdoor sport in the coming month.
Macau Lifestyle reports that the International Dragon Boat Festival will take place over three days - Saturday, June 20, Sunday, June 21 and Thursday, June 25, a national holiday - at the picturesque Nam Van Lake on the historic Praia Grande waterfront in Macau.
The Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on the fifth day of the fifth month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar, originally commemorated the ancient patriotic Chinese poet Qu Yuan, who protested corruption by drowning himself.
Many local and foreign teams usually participate in various men’s and women’s divisions, making the medal haul wide and diverse in what has become one of the international sporting community’s favourite outdoor parties in Macau. However, with travel restrictions in place, the races are set to be contested this year by local teams from the international community.
Macau is COVID-19 free, with all 45 cases recovered and discharged and no deaths recorded since strict measures were taken by the Macau SAR government to control the outbreak in January.
