Clinical dietitian Reem Al-Sharshani has recipe for success

Reem will be taking part in her third Asian Games at Aichi-Nagoya after making her debut in shooting (skeet) at Incheon 2014 and also competing at Hangzhou 2022.

She has represented Qatar at international competitions since 2011 and has won several medals in ISSF world championships, including gold in the mixed team event.

“This journey has shaped my character, strengthening my commitment to excellence, resilience and lifelong development,” she said.

“Alongside my sporting career, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences specializing in Clinical Nutrition and am currently working as a Clinical Dietitian.

“Balancing my responsibilities as a healthcare professional with my career as an elite athlete has given me a unique perspective on athlete health, performance and well-being.

“Having experienced the demands of elite sport as a high school student, university student and healthcare practitioner, I understand the challenges athletes face at every stage of their development and the importance of providing the right support both on and off the field of play.”

Over the years, Reem has worked closely with athletes, coaches, national federations and international sports organizations, giving her valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges facing athletes at every level.

“These experiences have led me to believe that athletes should have a meaningful voice in the development of sport,” she added.

“I believe that athletes should play an active role in shaping the future of sport. Throughout my career, I have built strong relationships with athletes from around the world, gaining valuable perspectives through international competition and cultural exchange.

“Meeting athletes from diverse backgrounds has given me a deeper appreciation of the values that unite us through sport and the positive impact that collaboration can have across the global sporting community.”

Throughout her journey as an elite athlete, Reem has come to understand that success in sport is not measured by medals alone but also by the ability to contribute to something greater.
