Dhaka, Bangladesh, September 9, 2026: Bangladesh will send 187 athletes – 90 men and 97 women – to the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 to October 4.
At a press conference held by the Bangladesh Olympic Association on Tuesday, September 8, it was announced that Bangladesh would compete in 22 of the 43 sports at the continental showpiece.
BOA Vice-President and Chef de Mission, Major (retd.) Imroze Ahmed, who briefed the media, disclosed that the country would pin its main medal hopes on kabaddi.
“We have high hopes for kabaddi. We hope kabaddi will produce a good result. We can also expect good results from cricket and shooting. We have many opportunities to achieve success at the Asian Games. An athlete just needs to perform at his or her best and deliver at the crucial moment to win a medal,” Major Ahmed was quoted by the Dhaka Tribune.
BOA Member Brigadier General Humayun Kabir, also chairman of the Bangladesh Army Sports Control Board, will serve as the Deputy Chef de Mission.
Shooter Abdullah Hel Baki and karateka Humaira Akter Antara will carry the Bangladesh flag at the opening ceremony on September 19.
Bangladesh’s 2026 Asian Games campaign will begin with the women’s football event on September 14.
