Nagoya, Japan, September 9, 2026: The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) marked the 10-day countdown to the opening ceremony on Wednesday, September 9.
“Just 10 days until the opening of the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026,” AINAGOC said in a social media post.
“Asia's largest sporting festival, bringing together top athletes from 45 countries and regions across Asia, finally opens on Saturday, September 19.
“The peak performances athletes have honed day after day, and the intense matches where they give everything to every single moment, will stir the hearts of everyone watching.
“Come and experience that excitement and emotion live at the competition venues.”
Although the opening ceremony is set for Saturday, September 19 at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, the action gets underway on Thursday, September 10 with men’s basketball.
Various other sports, including football, volleyball and teqball, will start before the opening ceremony, while the cruise liner serving as part of the Athletes’ Village will dock at Kinjo Pier in the Port of Nagoya on Tuesday, September 15, with a ceremony due to start at 1pm.
The 20th Asian Games will run from September 19 to October 4 with 11,000 athletes from the OCA’s 45 National Olympic Committees, plus the OCA Refugee Team comprising two taekwondo athletes.
