Nagoya, Japan, September 7, 2026: The new Asian Games sport of surfing comes under the spotlight in the latest “Honohon Challenge” of the intrepid mascot.
Surfing will make its Asian Games debut at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 from September 19 to October 4, with the competition taking place at Pacific Long Beach, Tahara, Aichi Prefecture.
Surfing action begins on Friday, September 25, with the finals in men’s and women’s shortboard events taking place three days later on September 28.
Not only will Aichi-Nagoya 2026 mark the debut of surfing, the Asian Games will also offer two qualifying places for the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028 – one for women and one for men – adding to the spectacle.
“Today's challenge is surfing,” Honohon reports.
“Reading the waves and riding at the right timing.”
Organising committee AINAGOC commented: “Honohon learned the joy of challenging while feeling nature.”
Mascot Honohon has been busy for several months, trying many of the 43 sports and 71 disciplines while showcasing the attractions and appeal of each sport on the Asian Games programme.
