Nagoya, Japan, September 6, 2026: Asian Games action is just four days away!
Although the opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will not take place until Saturday, September 19, the basketball competition tips off this Thursday, September 10.
“Basketball is taking off!” says a social media post by organising committee AINAGOC.
“The intense battle is about to begin on Thursday, September 10. The opening of Basketball is just around the corner. Let's send our passionate cheers to the players.”
The men’s basketball competition will run from September 10 to Sunday, September 20, and the women’s competition will be held from Thursday, September 17 to Saturday, September 26. Both competitions will take place at Aichi International Arena.
The Philippines are the defending champions in the men’s event, having beaten Jordan 70-60 in the final at Hangzhou 2022, and have won Asian Games gold on five occasions including the first four editions in 1951, 1954, 1958 and 1962.
However, China have the most gold medals with eight, followed by the Philippines (5) and South Korea (4).
In the women’s event, China will be aiming for a golden hat-trick in Nagoya, having won the title at Jakarta-Palembang 2018 and Hangzhou 2022.
China have won the gold medal on seven occasions, followed by South Korea (4) and Japan (2).
