Flag presentation ceremony for Hong Kong, China delegation to Asian Games

Hong Kong, China, September 1, 2026: With the 20th Asian Games approaching, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China held the flag presentation ceremony on Tuesday, September 1 at New Town Plaza in Sha Tin.

Mr. John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Mr. Sun Shangwu, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Mr. Hua You, Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR; and Miss Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, officiated at the ceremony. 

The Chief Executive presented the HKSAR flag to Dr. Timothy Fok, President of SF&OC, Mr. Edgar Yang, Honorary Secretary General of SF&OC, and Mr. Wong Po Kee, Honorary Deputy Secretary General of SF&OC and Chef de Mission of the Hong Kong, China delegation to the 20th Asian Games.

The 20th Asian Games will take place from September 19 to October 4 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. 

Hong Kong, China will send a delegation of more than 800 members, including approximately 580 athletes, to compete in over 30 sports. 

Delivering his speech, Dr. Timothy Fok said: “With events spanning multiple cities, this edition of the Asian Games presents significant challenges to the delegation’s support and coordination work. 

“Drawing on years of experience, SF&OC will continue to serve as the strongest support for athletes, attending to every detail of their participation so that they can compete without distraction, focus entirely on their performance, give their best and strive for excellence.”

*To mark the 75th anniversary of SF&OC and rally public support for Team Hong Kong, China at the Asian Games, SF&OC will host a series of promotional activities. 

Interactive game booths themed on “75” will be set up at New Town Plaza in Sha Tin from September 2-6 and at the APM shopping mall in Kwun Tong from September 11-13. 

At New Town Plaza, highlights will include meet-the-athlete sessions and the unveiling of the brand-new team uniforms of the Hong Kong, China delegation. 

Members of the public are welcome to visit the booths, take photos and show their support for the athletes.
