Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, June 1, 2020: The Badminton Association of Malaysia reports that the first day of the “Road to Tokyo” training camp went well on Monday.

All 38 athletes and officials successfully checked in at the Malaysian Badminton Academy and took part in the strict Standard Operating Procedures that include throat swab tests.

The badminton players and officials were greeted by medical staff in full protective uniforms in scenes that have become all too common in the days of COVID-19.

The processes were witnessed by the Youth and Sports Minister, Dato’ Sri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, alongside BAM President Dato’ Sri Norza Zakaria, National Sports Council Director-General Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, BAM General Secretary Dato’ Kenny Goh Chee Keong and National Sports Institute CEO Ahmad Faedzal Md Ramli.

Malaysia is preparing for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics without the services of the retired legend Lee Chong Wei, who won the silver medal at three consecutive Olympic Games in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
