Ban Ki-moon encourages Korean athletes ahead of Asian Games

Seoul, Korea, August 30, 2026: The Korean Sports & Olympic Committee had the great honour of welcoming Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations, to the Jincheon National Training Center.

With the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games approaching, Mr. Ban met with Korea’s national team athletes and coaches and offered his warm encouragement as they prepare for the competition.

Having served as Chair of the IOC Ethics Commission and now as an IOC Honour Member, Mr. Ban has long contributed to the international sporting community.

“I am especially grateful that, despite rarely taking on domestic positions, he kindly agreed to serve as the KSOC’s first Honorary Advisor,” said KSOC President Ryu Seung-min.

“His visit was a meaningful reminder of his continued support for Korean sport and our athletes.

“Mr. Ban, thank you sincerely for your trust, friendship, wisdom and encouragement. It is a great honor to have you walking alongside us.”
