Colombo, Sri Lanka, August 23, 2026: The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka has congratulated javelin sensation Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage for winning the Lausanne Diamond League crown on Friday, August 21.

Pathirage clinched his third Diamond League title this season with a throw of 88.14 metres, edging out India’s Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra by just nine centimetres in a nerve-wracking finish.

The high-octane victory reinforces Pathirage’s dominance in men’ javelin and cements his world number one ranking. Apart from dominating the Diamond League, the former fast bowler also won the Glasgow Commonwealth Games gold medal last month.

The Sri Lanka NOC posted: “Congratulations, Rumesh, on an incredible victory and another outstanding achievement on the international stage. It was a performance that made Sri Lanka proud.”

Before the action took place in Lausanne, the Sri Lanka NOC coordinated a visit by Pathirage to Olympic House, headquarters of the International Olympic Committee.

The visit offered Pathirage a special opportunity to experience the home of the global Olympic Movement and the values, history and spirit that inspires athletes around the world.
