Kuwait City, Kuwait, August 19, 2026: With 30 days to go to the opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games, the Olympic Council of Asia is leaving no stone unturned in creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for the athletes.
In a circular to National Olympic Committees and NOC Safeguarding Officers, the OCA’s Gender Equity and Safeguarding Manager, Sabine Fakhoury, sets out a list of requirements in order to ensure a cohesive policy and strategy.
“As the 20th Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 approaches, safeguarding remains an essential priority for the OCA,” Sabine writes.
“Our shared objective is to ensure that every athlete and accredited participant is safe, respected and supported throughout the Games.”
The OCA asks the safeguarding stakeholders to pay particular attention to five key points:
*OCA Safeguarding Code of Conduct
As part of the safeguarding requirements for the 20th Asian Games, all accredited members of each NOC delegation are required to read, acknowledge and agree to comply with the OCA Safeguarding Code of Conduct. This includes athletes, coaches, officials, medical staff, support personnel, volunteers and all other accredited delegation members.
*NOC Safeguarding Officers Code of Conduct
All nominated NOC Safeguarding Officers/Safeguarding Points of Contact are requested to read and sign the Code of Conduct. The document outlines their responsibilities in promoting athlete welfare and entourage, preventing harm, responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns and contributing to a safe, respectful and inclusive Games environment.
*Games-Time Safeguarding Information
An attached presentation provides the key information regarding Games-time safeguarding arrangements, including reporting mechanisms and contact details.
*Mental Health Officers
OCA would also appreciate each NOC to provide details of any mental health professionals/officers who will be attending the Games as part of the delegation, even if they are accredited under a different function or position.
*Guarding the Asian Games
As part of the OCA’s safeguarding awareness activities, the OCA will implement “Guarding the Asian Games” during the Games.
Safeguarding awareness booths will be available at Garden Pier and the Cruise Ship from September 20 to October 3 from 16:00 to 21:00.
“Your cooperation and active engagement are essential in helping us create a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for everyone at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026,” Sabine concludes.
