Nagoya, Japan, August 17, 2026: Here is the torch that will be carried throughout Aichi Prefecture in the build-up to the 20th Asian Games opening ceremony in Nagoya on September 19.
The design of the torch was unveiled at the 100-day countdown ceremony at the Nagoya Noh Theatre on June 11 with the motto “A Uniting Flame for All”.
The Asian Games torch is imbued with aspirations toward the history and technology of "monozukuri" (manufacturing) in Aichi-Nagoya, one of the world's leading industrial cities.
The internal burner unit is deliberately displayed, showcasing the industrial structure.
The design, which utilizes the texture of metal, conveys the hope and excitement of the event spreading across Asia through the “Sacred Flame Relay”.
The handle is designed with an octagonal pillar inspired by the character 八 (8), which represents the expansion of possibilities and the hope for future development and prosperity.
“The Asian Games Torch is filled with the technology and aspirations of the host cities and Aichi-Nagoya,” AINAGOC stated.
Torch-lighting ceremonies will be held in Tokyo on August 18 and Hiroshima on August 20 – the two previous Japanese host cities of the Asian Games in 1958 and 1994, respectively – before they merge at Nagoya Castle in the main lighting ceremony on August 22 ahead of the torch relay through 40 municipalities in Aichi Prefecture.
