Glasgow, India, August 2, 2026: A gold rush from the boxers gave India its most successful day at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games on Saturday, August 1, resulting in the country climbing up the overall medal standings into fourth position.
India won eight gold medals, five silvers and three bronze on the penultimate day of the Games making it the country’s biggest single-day haul in Glasgow, and boosting the rising sub-continent sporting power into fourth slot behind Australia, England and Canada.
India now has 13 golds, 17 silvers and 9 bronze for a total of 39.
The standout performances on Saturday came in boxing where India produced the finest-ever campaign in Commonwealth Games history by winning seven gold medals and three silvers
Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Arundhati Choudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal and Sakshi Chaudhary struck gold, while Jadumani Singh, Lovlina Borgohain and Narender Berwal won silver.
India also enjoyed success on the athletics track. Soman Rana won gold in the men’s F57 discus throw, leading an Indian one-two alongside Shubham Juyal, who took silver.
Amir Daniel Majeed made history delivering Malaysia’s first judo gold at the Commonwealth Games in the men’s under-81kg category.
Amir Daniel defeated South Africa’s Timothy Meuwsen by waza-ari with a kata-guruma technique in the final at the Scottish Event Campus.
The judo gold allowed Malaysia to stay in the top 10 in the medal standings with eight golds, three silvers and three bronze.
