Malaysia’s men’s weightlifting team awarded Trafalgar Trophy at Glasgow CWG

Glasgow, Scotland, August 1, 2026: Commonwealth Sport Malaysia extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Malaysian Weightlifting Federation, particularly its President, Mr. Ayub Rahmat, on the award of the Trafalgar Trophy during the meeting of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation on Friday, July 31.

 

The Trafalgar Trophy for the men's team weightlifting competition at the CWG is a prestigious team award presented to the best-performing men's weightlifting team at the Commonwealth Games.

 

The Trafalgar Trophy was awarded to the Malaysian men's weightlifting team as the overall best-performing team at the XXIII Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 after securing five gold medals through the following athletes:

 

1. Men’s 60kg - Mohamad Aniq Kasdan

 

2. Men’s 65kg - Muhamad Aznil Bidin 

 

3. Men’s 79kg - Muhammad Erry Hidayat 

 

4. Men’s 88kg - Muhammad Hafizuddin Roslin 

 

5. Men’s 94kg - Mohamad Syahmi Nor Ghazali 

 

The Trafalgar Trophy was jointly presented to MWF President Ayub Rahmat by Mr. Mohammed Jalood, President of the International Weightlifting Federation, and Mr. Tom Liaw, Acting President of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation.

 

Dr. Nur Azmi Ahmad, Deputy President of Commonwealth Sport Malaysia, was present to witness this historic achievement.

 

“On behalf of Commonwealth Sport Malaysia and the entire Commonwealth family, we express our appreciation to the Malaysian Weightlifting Federation and Mr. Ayub Rahmat for the outstanding contribution of the weightlifting team to the Malaysian contingent at the XXIII Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026,” said Dr. Norza Zakaria, President of Commonwealth Sport Malaysia, President of the Southeast Asian Games Federation and OCA Vice President for the Southeast Asia zone.

 

“We are equally proud of this remarkable achievement as they have been awarded the Trafalgar Trophy for the first time in history.”
