Glasgow, Scotland, July 26, 2026: Two-time Paralympic champion Bonnie Bunyau Gustin put Malaysia on the medals map at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Gustin finished third in the para powerlifting men’s lightweight final at the Scottish Event Campus Armadillo with a score of 153.5 points.

Although he fell just short of defending the gold medal he won at the XXII Commonwealth Games Birmingham 2022, Gustin’s performance marked a proud moment for the Malaysian contingent by delivering the nation's first medal of this year's Games.

England's Mark Swan won gold with 153.9 points, while Nigeria's Roland Ezuruike secured the silver medal, also with 153.9 points.

*Para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar won India's first medal of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, securing a bronze in the men's heavyweight event with a best lift of 190 kg and 130.9 points.

Nigeria's Riluwan Idris won gold (132.8 points) and England's Matthew Harding took silver (131.0 points).

The CWG features 10 sports and runs from July 23 to August 2.
