Glasgow, Scotland, July 25, 2026: The Malaysian contingent officially commenced its campaign at the XXIII Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 in a spectacular opening ceremony on Thursday, July 23 at The Hydro, Scottish Event Campus.
The colourful ceremony brought together athletes from across 74 Commonwealth nations and territories in a celebration of unity, diversity and sporting excellence.
A delegation of 30 members was led by the Chef de Mission, Mr. Awalan Abdul Aziz. He was accompanied by the flag bearer, Mr. Abdul Latif Romly, a two-time Paralympic gold medallist in long jump, and the King’s Baton bearer, Ms. Emma Firyana Saroji, the current world number one in lawn bowls.
The delegation marched proudly into the arena, carrying the hopes, dreams and aspirations of millions of Malaysians across the nation.
Joining them were athletes and team officials representing five sports: para athletics, bowls and para bowls, para swimming, weightlifting and wheelchair basketball, as well as members of the secretariat, comprising representatives from Commonwealth Sport Malaysia, the Paralympic Council of Malaysia, the National Sports Council and National Sports Institute.
The Malaysian contingent looked resplendent in their specially designed batik attire, themed "United in Colours, Driven by Excellence". Inspired by the Jalur Gemilang, the striking combination of blue, yellow, red and white symbolised unity, courage, integrity, excellence and national pride.
The elegant ensemble was perfectly complemented by the official footwear proudly sponsored by Skechers, reflecting both style and comfort as the Malaysian contingent made its grand entrance.
The Malaysian contingent in Glasgow comprises 104 members - 59 athletes and 45 team officials. Malaysia will compete in eight of the 10 sports: athletics and para athletics, bowls and para bowls, 3x3 basketball and wheelchair basketball, track cycling and para track cycling, artistic gymnastics, weightlifting and para powerlifting, swimming and para swimming and judo.
