Glasgow, Scotland, July 24, 2026: The Singapore National Olympic Council described it as “a proud moment for Team Singapore” at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Thursday, July 23.
A total of 28 athletes and officials marched into the opening ceremony, led by Chef de Mission Lau Kok Keng and Assistant Chef de Mission Terry Tay.
“Representing swimming, para swimming, lawn bowls, para bowls, weightlifting and 3x3 basketball, our contingent proudly carried the Singapore flag on to the Commonwealth stage,” the SNOC posted.
Leading the way were flag bearers Gan Ching Hwee and Mawjit Singh.
"It's an incredible honour to be carrying the flag for the first time. Being entrusted with the flag comes with a great sense of pride and responsibility because you're leading the team at such an important moment,” said Gan Ching Hwee.
Mawjit Singh added: "It still feels a little unreal that I'll be carrying the Singapore flag at my first Commonwealth Games. Marching into the stadium tonight is something I'll never forget."
The social media post concluded: “With the opening ceremony behind us, it's time to compete. All the best to our athletes as they begin their Glasgow 2026 campaign. Let's rally behind Team Singapore!”
