Harbin, China, July 24, 2026: The chief instructor at the OCA-ISU Asian Short Track Speed Skating Youth Camp, Chun Jae-su, believes the training can awaken the potential in the young skaters.
Chun and his coaching team are working with 35 athletes and 12 coaches from 14 National Olympic Committees during the course, which runs from July 20-26.
“I hope throughout this camp at least to have more confidence, to see their potential which is sleeping now,” he said, when asked how the athletes would benefit from the camp.
“All of the athletes have huge potential to develop. It is about how to wake up the first step and the need to believe how much they can do. There is no limit.”
Chun outlined the main goals of the camp.
“We focus on fundamental skills for short track, which is posture, edge control and efficient skating, and all the basic, important things from A-B-C.”
Chun said the athletes are working in two groups, A and B, based on their skating level, technical level, racing skill and performance.
“So the final goal is that each group can learn the maximum about technique and some new racing skill during this camp.
“These two groups are different. Group one is more focused on racing technique, performance, endurance and speed. The second group is more focused on basics like the posture,” Chun said.
